BREAKING: Brett Brown Steps Down as Oilers Head Coach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Brett Brown has officially resigned as the head coach of the Huntington Beach Oilers after a nine-year tenure leading the program. Coach Brown’s journey with the Oilers spans 18 years, beginning as the quarterbacks coach before advancing to offensive coordinator while continuing in his role coaching quarterbacks under former head coach Eric Lo. Brown was a key part of the 2013 coaching staff and team that captured the CIF Southern Section championship.

Brown stepped into the head coach role in 2016 after Eric Lo’s resignation. Coach Brown shared with Jeremy Westerbeck of JPWest Media, that he will remain a teacher at Huntington Beach High School, emphasizing his decision to step away was driven by a need to spend more time with family.

During his time as head coach, Brown compiled a 39-56 overall record, leading the Oilers to the CIF Southern Section playoffs six times in his nine-year tenure. His most successful season came in 2023, when the Oilers reached the semifinals, falling in the final moments to Simi Valley.

Last season, Brown guided the Oilers to their best record under his leadership, advancing to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Summit High School. With key players like Brady Edmunds, Steel Kurtz, Troy Foster, Owen Bone, Gavin Seguin, Darby Warren, Charlie Stubin, and Caden McNiven all set to return in 2025, Huntington Beach faces the challenge of finding a new head coach who can build on this foundation and keep the program moving forward.
