BREAKING: Player of the Year Finalists Announced with a Breakdown

Los Alamitos

Davon Mitchell, Tight End, Senior

The 6’4 245lb Tight End from Los Alamitos and Oklahoma Commit, Davon Mitchell has made it as a finalist. Davon had a huge year for the Griffins being a big part of them making it to the CIFSS D2 Quarterfinals with 749 receiving yards on 7 touchdowns on the season.

Edison

Mason York, Wide Receiver, Defensive End, Senior

The reigning JPWest Media Player of the Year from Edison High School, Mason York is back to defend the title. Mason led the Chargers in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns as well as had 38 tackles but was a big part overall to help the Edison Chargers get into the D2 playoffs

Jared Schnoor, Corner, Senior

Schnoor was a big part of the Chargers defense, having 5 interceptions, 38 tackles, 2 caused fumbles, and 1 sack

Makai Sagiao, Offensive Lineman, Senior

The big man and the first Offensive Lineman in as a finalist, Makai Sagiao from Edison High School is one of the finalists, Makai and the rest of the O Line was a big part of Edison’s running back, Julius Gillick huge season.

Newport Harbor

Josiah Lamarque, Wide Receiver, Senior

Probably one of the best wide receivers in the Sunset League over the past 4 years at Newport Harbor, Josiah Lamarque coming off a huge senior year after a year ago finishing as runner up in the JPWest Media Player of the Year. Josiah finished his senior year with 983 receiving yards on 70 receptions and 11 touchdowns.

Corona Del Mar

Colin Pene, Linebacker, Kicker, Senior

Probably one of the best kickers this season in the Sunset League, Colin Pene, with 12 touchbacks and had a 93% PAT percentage on 41 made on 44 attempts, and made 3 of 5 on field goals. Colin had a big year on defense as well with 71 total tackles and 3 sacks.

Huntington Beach

Justin Tauanuu, Offensive Lineman, Senior

The next big man and Offensive Lineman that made it as a finalist is out of Huntington Beach, Justin Tauanuu, USC Commit and 3 year Varsity starter. Justin was a big part in the Oilers road to the Semifinals

Tyler Young, Running Back, Senior

In a year with records broken for the Oilers, Tyler Young was one that got into the 1,000 rushing yard mark for the first time for the Oilers since 2015 (Hunter Simmons was the last to do it). Tyler had 1,208 rushing yards on the season with 12 rushing touchdowns as well as 359 receiving yards with 1 receiving touchdown.

Brady Edmunds, Quarterback, Freshman

The Freshman has made it as a finalist, the only underclassmen, and as well as Quarterback to make it this year. After an impressive season from Brady Edmunds breaking Huntington Beach’s single season passing yard record, on 2,691 passing yards on 164 completions with 24 touchdowns

Hunter Gray, Wide Receiver, Senior

The Senior Wide Receiver from Huntington Beach had an huge season breaking the Oilers single season receiving yard record with 1,281 receiving yards on 54 receptions and 14 touchdowns as well as being a huge part of the Oilers making it all the way to the D6 Semifinals
