Game: #7 Los Alamitos vs #24 Edison

Los Alamitos proved once again that they are at another level this season, winning 41-22 over the Edison Chargers to remain undefeated through week 8 for the first time since 1998. The Griffins were physical on both sides of the ball with the leadership of Colin Creason and Los Al’s two headed backfield with Lenny Ibarra and Kamden Tillis, all ending up in the endzone at least once tonight. The Chargers did put up a fight in the first half responding to Los Al’s offensive prowess with Sam Thomson finding Matthew Auau and Sam Edmisten on multiple passing plays. Ultimately, Los Alamitos flew out of the gates in the second to pull away from Edison with turnovers and big plays.

The night began with a jolt on defense as Will Harrison intercepted Los Al’s Colin Creason on the first drive of the game. Los Al’s defense responded with a stop before Crue Bradshaw’s 52 yard attempt missed. Creason would capitalize on the next drive, finding Ashton Gogue for a 50-yard strike to set up the opening touchdown and a 7–0 lead. Edison responded with a quick drive capped by #9 Sam Edmisten’s touchdown on a checkdown pass, but a missed PAT kept the Griffins ahead 7–6. The fireworks continued when Kamden Tillis ripped off a series of bruising runs, finishing the drive with a rushing score to extend the lead to 14–6. Edison’s Edmisten answered again, breaking loose for a 62-yard run that led to a field goal, trimming the gap to 14–9 by the end of the first quarter.

Edison grabbed brief control in the second, converting a key pass interference penalty into another touchdown run by Edmisten to go up 16–14. But Los Alamitos would swing momentum right back. A blocked 40-yard field goal by Los Al and Oscar Ocampo scooping up the ball to the 2 yard line on the other side of the field set up the Griffins deep in Edison territory, and Creason punched it in himself from two yards out to put Los Al ahead 21–16 going into halftime.

The third quarter belonged entirely to the Griffins. On the opening drive, Lenny Ibarra took on a 75-yard run down the sideline to stretch the lead to 28–16. Moments later, Hunter Eligon would strip the ball on defense, giving Los Al another short field. Ibarra struck again—this time on a 6-yard touchdown—to make it 35–16. Creason wasn’t done yet, launching a 74-yard touchdown pass to Beckham Hofland for his third passing score of the night. Though the extra point clanged off the upright, Los Al carried a commanding 41–16 lead into the final quarter.

Edison managed a late touchdown in the fourth, but the outcome had long been decided. The Griffins leaned on their ground game to drain the clock and close out a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.
