GAME PREVIEW: Huntington Beach looks to bounce back, Capo Valley looks to continue their unbeaten season

Huntington Beach @ Capo Valley

Friday 9/1 7PM

Capo Valley HS

PREVIEW: Huntington Beach heads into this contest with a burning desire to bounce back from their recent setback. Last week’s heart-wrenching loss to Trabuco Hills, where they trailed 21-0 in the first three drives, is fueling their determination to rectify their mistakes and emerge victorious. The final score, 31-28 in favor of Trabuco Hills, propelled them to a 1-1 record.

With their sights set on a fresh challenge, the Oilers now turn their attention to the undefeated Capo Valley Cougars. Boasting an unblemished 2-0 record, the Cougars have proven their mettle with a commanding 28-9 win in their most recent outing.

Fueling Capo Valley’s offensive engine is junior quarterback prodigy, Tommy Acosta. He orchestrated his team’s triumph with finesse, amassing 142 passing yards on 13 completions, while notching 2 touchdowns in their last game.

However, Huntington Beach is showcasing a rising star of their own at quarterback. Freshman sensation Brady Edmunds is making waves, etching his name in Oilers’ history. In the previous game, he achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first player since 2011 to exceed 300 passing yards in a game (334 yards). This achievement parallels the performance of Michael Chislock on November 25th, 2011, against Mission Viejo.

Defensively, the matchup brings together two standout linebackers, Brandon Soleau of Huntington Beach and Jackson Sievers of Capo Valley. With an average of 10.5 tackles per game, Soleau is a force to be reckoned with. Not to be outdone, junior standout Jackson Sievers maintains an impressive average of 11.5 tackles per game.

PREDICTION: Huntington Beach 24 Capo Valley 21
