LOS ANGELES, CA – The No. 13 USC Trojans put an emphatic exclamation point on a three-game series sweep of the Washington Huskies Sunday afternoon at Dedeaux Field, exploding for 14 runs and invoking the mercy rule in a 14-4 victory after just seven innings. The win pushed USC to a scorching 24-1 overall (8-1 Big Ten), while dropping Washington to 9-14 (4-5 Big Ten).

Andrew Johnson got the start and worked four solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Henry Chabot (2-0) earned the victory in relief, tossing two innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts. Sax Matson closed things out with a scoreless final frame, striking out two more as the Trojan bullpen slammed the door.

The Trojans wasted no time jumping all over Washington starter Hayden Lewis (2-3), who lasted just one inning and surrendered six runs on five hits and three walks. USC erupted for five runs in the opening frame and never looked back, adding single tallies in the second and third before tacking on two more in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh to reach the 10-run mercy threshold.

Offensively, the Trojans pounded out 11 hits and drew six walks while spreading the damage across the lineup. Brock Slaton led the way with two hits, including a home run, and a game-high four RBI. Andrew Lamb chipped in a three-run homer and three RBI of his own. Dean Carpentier scored three times on a hit and two walks while driving in one, and Augie Lopez, Maddox Riske, and Isaac Cadena each added two-hit efforts. Kevin Takeuchi reached base twice via walks and scored twice as the top of the order set the table all afternoon.

Washington’s lone bright spot came from Jackson Hotchkiss, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI. But the Huskies could muster only seven hits total and never mounted a serious threat after the early barrage.

With the sweep complete and their historic 2026 start rolling along, the #13 Trojans have firmly established themselves as one of the nation’s elite teams early in Big Ten play.
