ARLINGTON, TX- On Saturday afternoon at Globe Life Field, No. 4 Mississippi State unleashed a 15-hit, 10-walk offensive barrage to dismantle Virginia Tech 15-8 in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. The Bulldogs improved to a perfect 11-0 on the young season – their 11th straight win – while the Hokies dropped to 7-3.

Tomas Valincius set the tone on the mound, tossing 5⅓ innings of dominant baseball. The left-hander allowed just four hits and two runs (the first he’s surrendered all season), walked one, and struck out seven to earn the victory. From there, the MSU bullpen kept things in check until a wild ninth that saw Virginia Tech launch three straight solo homers – too little, too late against the Dawgs’ firepower.

Mississippi State jumped on Virginia Tech starter Griffin Stieg right away. Aidan Teel led off the first with a single, moved to third on Reed Stallman’s RBI double, and scored for a quick 1-0 lead. In the second, Bryce Chance doubled, Teel singled him home, and Ace Reese launched a two-run homer to right-center to make it 4-0. The Hokies scratched across a run in the third on a sacrifice fly after a triple, but that was all the breathing room MSU would give them early.

The Bulldogs added insurance in the fifth when Chance was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded (5-1). Valincius worked out of a jam in the sixth after Ethan Ball’s solo homer cut it to 5-2, then handed the ball over as the offense went nuclear.

The seventh inning was pure State baseball – five runs on four hits and smart baserunning. Gehrig Frei doubled, Andrew Raymond walked (before exiting later after taking a pitch near the collarbone), and a series of singles, a hit-by-pitch, and Reese’s sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 10-2. Freshman Jacob Parker delivered the knockout blow in the eighth with a pinch-hit three-run homer to right, stretching it to 13-2. Virginia Tech answered with Aimon Chandler’s three-run shot later in the frame to avoid the run-rule, but MSU tacked on two more in the ninth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Chone James and an RBI single from Drew Wyers.

Mississippi State wraps up the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on Sunday afternoon against No. 1 UCLA (3:30 p.m. CT).
