GAME RECAP: Cholowsky Blasts Two Homers, as #1 UCLA Cruises Past #7 TCU

LOS ANGELES, CA – Roch Cholowsky put on a power display for the ages, smashing two home runs and driving in five runs to lead the top-ranked UCLA Bruins to a convincing 10-2 victory over No. 7 TCU on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Bruins (4-1) wasted little time asserting their dominance against the visiting Horned Frogs (2-3), exploding for five runs in the second inning and never looking back in a matchup of national powers.

Logan Reddemann set the tone on the mound, delivering five strong innings of one-run ball while striking out a career-high 10 batters. The left-hander allowed just five hits and one walk, keeping TCU’s potent lineup off balance all night en route to his second win of the season.

UCLA’s offense, meanwhile, put up 15 hits and capitalized on every opportunity. The Bruins loaded the bases in the second before Cholowsky stepped in and launched a grand slam to left field, clearing the sacks and sending the Bruins ahead 5-0. Dean West, Jarrod Hocking, and Will Gasparino all crossed the plate on the big fly, with Gasparino’s RBI double earlier in the frame getting the rally started and plating Aiden Aguayo.

The Bruins tacked on two more in the third when Mulivai Levu ripped a two-RBI single to center, scoring Cholowsky and Gasparino to make it 7-0.

TCU scratched across a solo home run from Chase Brunson in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-1, but UCLA answered right back in the fifth. Cholowsky went deep again—this time a solo shot to right-center for his second homer of the night—pushing the lead to 8-1. A wild pitch allowed Levu to score, and Aguayo added an RBI on a fielder’s choice to plate Roman Martin, capping a three-run frame and making it 10-1.

The Bruins’ bullpen took it from there. Ian May, Chris Grothues, and CJ Bott combined for four scoreless innings (Bott allowed one unearned run in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk), preserving the rout while striking out 14 batters as a staff.

Levu was a hitting machine all night, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Gasparino added a double and an RBI while scoring twice, and the top of the order set the table effectively throughout.

For TCU, starter Mason Brassfield struggled early, surrendering seven hits and five earned runs in just 1⅔ innings. The Horned Frogs managed eight hits total but left 12 runners on base and couldn’t generate consistent offense against UCLA’s stingy pitching.

Cholowsky’s two-homer, five-RBI night wasn’t just the story of the game—it was a reminder of why the reigning Big 10 Player of the Year and projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft continues to turn heads.

With the statement win, the Bruins send an early message that their No. 1 ranking is well-earned as they prepare for the rest of a loaded non-conference slate. TCU will look to bounce back in Saturday’s middle game of the series.
