DALLAS, TX – The Dallas Baptist Patriots wasted no time announcing their presence in the 2026 season, pounding out 13 runs on 11 hits to cruise past visiting Binghamton 13-2 in Friday’s Opening Day showdown at Horner Ballpark. Behind a flawless offensive performance from Adam Berghult and a three-run blast from Ben Tryon, DBU (1-0) overpowered the Bearcats (0-1) in a game that showcased the Patriots’ trademark power and depth.

DBU struck first in the bottom of the 1st, plating two runs to grab early momentum. After Binghamton briefly tied it with a two-spot in the top of the 3rd, the Patriots answered immediately with a four-run outburst in the bottom half to reclaim control at 6-2. They never looked back, adding two more in the 4th, four in the 5th, and one in the 6th to pull away decisively.

Berghult was the star of the day, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, setting the tone atop the lineup. Tryon delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer that highlighted the 5th-inning surge, while Ryan Martin chipped in a 2-for-3 effort with a double and three RBI. Cooper Neville added a double and an RBI of his own, and the Patriots got contributions up and down the order in a balanced attack that overwhelmed Binghamton’s pitching staff.

On the mound, starter Russ Smith earned the win (1-0) with four strong innings, allowing two runs on just two hits while striking out six and walking three. Reliever Jerrod Jenkins closed it out cleanly for the save.

Binghamton’s Hayden Tarsia took the loss (0-1) after surrendering six earned runs in just 2.2 innings. The Bearcats managed only five hits on the afternoon, with Garrett Hunter’s double leading their limited offense.

The Patriots’ convincing season-opening victory sets a commanding tone as they look to build on last year’s strong campaign. The three-game series continues today at 6:05 PM CT and finishes on Sunday with plenty more baseball ahead at Horner Ballpark.
