POTY: Julius Gillick Named JPWest Media Player of the Year

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – Edison High School continues to dominate the JPWest Media Awards in 2024 by getting the Player of the Year and the Lineman of the Year, with record-breaking running back Julius Gillick earning the coveted JPWest Media Player of the Year honor. Gillick brings the award back to South Huntington Beach, becoming the second Edison Charger to win it in three years. Wide receiver Mason York was the first, taking home the title in 2022 as a junior.

Gillick’s 2024 season has been nothing short of historic. He broke Edison’s single-season and career rushing records, amassing an impressive 2,365 rushing yards over 14 games. He also set a new single-game rushing touchdown record this year with six touchdowns against Helix breaking his own school record set a season ago against Huntington Beach, a feat he matched a few weeks later on in the Southern Section semifinals against Vista Murrieta.

With one game left this season, Gillick and the Edison Chargers are gearing up for their final challenge: a showdown against the Central Grizzlies of Fresno. The game is set for Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM at Saddleback College and will be broadcast live on Spectrum SportsNet.
