PREVIEW: It’s the CIF Southern Section Football Semifinals week, and all eyes are on Simi Valley where the Pioneers are set to host the Huntington Beach Oilers in what promises to be an intense matchup. Simi Valley, entering the semis with a 7-5 record, clinched a significant Quarterfinal victory against Crean Lutheran (27-7), marking Head Coach Jim Benkert’s 300th career win. Leading their offense is Junior Running Back Brice Hawkins, boasting an average of 116.4 rushing yards per game, and he showcased a solid performance last week with 102 total yards of offense.

Turning our attention to the Huntington Beach Oilers, their upward trajectory throughout the season is evident. They secured a remarkable victory against the top-seeded Ontario Christian in the Division 6 Playoffs. Hunter Gray’s stellar performance broke the school’s receiving yard record previously held by Moe Barber since 2013. Additionally, Freshman Quarterback Brady Edmunds stands a mere 175 passing yards away from shattering Mike Chislock’s school record set back in 2011. The Oilers regained strength as a team last week, welcoming back Wide Receiver Troy Foster and Senior Defensive End Nate Flecken after a two-week absence. Notably, Senior Running Back Tyler Young carried the team with an impressive 196 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in the previous game.
