WEEK PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS: CIFSS Week 3 and 3C2A Football Week 2

PREVIEW:  Week 3 of the CIF Southern Section football season is here, and it kicks off with the Pacifica Mariners traveling to Westminster High School to take on the Marina Vikings.

Last week, the Marina Vikings secured a solid 21-6 victory over the Fountain Valley Barons. The Vikings totaled 126 passing yards and 89 rushing yards, with Shane Cassidy leading the charge, scoring two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Pacifica Mariners are looking to bounce back after a tough 24-0 shutout loss to Northwood.

PREDICTION: Vikings keep it rolling with a 35-14 win

Estancia @ University

PREVIEW: The Trojans come into this game with an 0-2 record, having scored just 31 points over their last two games. They are hoping to turn things around tonight against Estancia after a 33-14 loss to Los Amigos last week. Senior quarterback Justin Tribble threw for 146 yards on 13 completions, adding one touchdown in the effort.

On the other hand, the Estancia Eagles enter this matchup with a 2-0 record, following a 21-7 victory over Katella last week. The Eagles were led by junior running back Jeff Brown, who rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown. 

PREDICTION: Estancia wins a close low scoring one to continue their undefeated season 21-17

Huntington Beach @ Redondo Union

PREVIEW: It’s a highly anticipated rematch from last season, when the Sea Hawks narrowly fell to the Oilers in Huntington Beach, 13-12, after a missed two-point attempt.

This season, Huntington Beach enters the game with a 2-1 record, coming off an impressive 29-24 upset over the Capo Valley Cougars. Sophomore quarterback Brady Edmunds had a standout performance, throwing for 348 yards and two touchdowns. The Oilers’ defense also made a big impact, with Steel Kurtz returning a 59-yard interception for a touchdown.

As for Redondo Union, they are looking to bounce back after a tough 14-13 loss to Mira Costa last week. Senior quarterback Niko London completed eight passes for 75 yards in the close defeat.

PREDICTION: Brady Edmunds keeps it going for the Oilers and the HB Defense continues to get better as the Oilers win 42-14

San Clemente @ Corona Del Mar

PREVIEW: It’s the CIF Southern Section Game of the Week as the San Clemente Tritons travel north to Davidson Field in Newport Beach to face the Corona Del Mar Sea Kings.

The last time we saw Corona Del Mar was on August 29th, when they dominated Cypress in a 47-14 win, with Dorsett Stecker hauling in three receiving touchdowns. However, last week the Sea Kings fell in the Sea King Bowl at Palos Verdes High School. In that game, Max Nashed threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Wyatt Lucas rushed for 64 yards.

On the other side, the San Clemente Tritons come into this matchup with a 1-2 record after a close 27-17 loss to La Costa Canyon. Senior quarterback threw for 207 yards on 19 completions and one touchdown, as the Tritons look to bounce back against the Sea Kings.

PREDICTION: Corona Del Mar wins in a close one 28-24

Riverside @ Golden West

PREVIEW: Week 2 of the 3C2A football season is here, as Golden West hosts Riverside, with both teams sitting at 1-0. The Rustlers narrowly edged out Bakersfield last week, with quarterback Will Burns throwing for 143 yards and one touchdown. On defense, former Huntington Beach Oiler Brandon Soleau stood out, recording six solo tackles and one sack.

The Riverside Tigers come into this matchup after a decisive 44-21 win over the Long Beach City Vikings. Quarterback Brady Jones led the charge with 337 passing yards on 26 completions, while Ja’Wuan Nickson made his presence felt on defense with three sacks.

PREDICTION: Riverside continues to 2-0 with a close 28-21 win

Santa Barbara @ Saddleback

PREVIEW: Last week, the Bobcats traveled north to face the Ventura Pirates, falling 49-34. The Bobcats returned to their two-quarterback system, with Trey Kukuk taking the majority of snaps. Kukuk completed 24 of 31 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Enrique Amposta led the team with eight total tackles.

Meanwhile, the Vaqueros suffered a 38-0 shutout loss to the Fullerton Hornets, with quarterback Benni Collins throwing for 180 yards on 18 completions.

PREDICTION: Saddleback bounces back in the home opener with a 35-10 win
