ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs shook off Friday night’s disappointing 8-2 loss to the Florida Gators and responded with a complete, gritty effort Saturday afternoon at Foley Field. Georgia rolled to a 5-1 win in front of a fired-up home crowd, pounding out 12 hits while limiting the Gators to just two and evening the weekend series at 1-1.

Dylan Vigue set the tone on the mound for the Dawgs, delivering six strong innings. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits, walked three and struck out seven to earn the win. Caden Aoki then slammed the door with three perfect innings of relief, striking out five and facing the minimum to seal the victory.

Florida starter Liam Peterson was brilliant in his own right, tossing seven innings and allowing one run on eight hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. But the Gators’ bullpen couldn’t hold the line. Cooper Walls faced three batters in the eighth and allowed two hits and three earned runs without recording an out, while Caden McDonald surrendered another run in the ninth.

The game was a classic pitchers’ duel until Georgia’s lineup erupted in the bottom of the eighth. Rylan Lujo (3-for-3) sparked the rally, setting the table with a hit. Jordy Oriach followed with an RBI single that plated Daniel Jackson to regain the lead. Henry Allen ripped an RBI single to score Lujo. Ty Peeples (pinch-running) came around to score on Brennan Hudson’s sacrifice fly, and Allen crossed the plate on a wild pitch as Ryan Black advanced to third. Just like that, it was 5-1 and the Georgia faithful were on their feet.

Georgia got on the board first in the opening inning when Tre Phelps singled, advanced to third and scored on Jackson’s RBI groundout. Florida answered in the third when Jacob Kendall reached base and came home on Ethan Surowiec’s RBI single to center, knotting the score at 1-1. Karson Bowen added Florida’s other hit, but that was it for the Gators’ offense against Vigue and Aoki.

The Bulldogs improved to 29-7 overall with the win and showed the fight and depth that have made them one of the top teams in the SEC all season. After Friday’s offensive struggles, Saturday’s 12-hit outburst and flawless defense were exactly what head coach Scott Stricklin and the Dawgs needed to bounce back.

Game 3 of the series is set for Sunday at Foley Field. Georgia will look to take the series while Florida tries to salvage a split on the road against a ranked opponent that just reminded everyone why it sits at No. 4 in the latest polls.
