GAME RECAP: Georgia Edges Alabama 20–17 in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Bryant-Denny Stadium went quiet in the end.

Georgia beat Alabama 20–17 on the road to improve to 6–0 (4–0 SEC). The Crimson Tide dropped to 5–1 (3–1 SEC) for their first loss of the season. It was Georgia’s first regular-season win in Tuscaloosa since 2007.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with Peyton Woodring’s 43-yard field goal in the first quarter. Gunner Stockton then hit London Humphreys for a 20-yard touchdown early in the second to make it 10–0. Alabama answered quickly. Keelon Russell found Marshall Pritchett for a 22-yard score, and EJ Crowell punched it in from a yard out as the half expired to give the Tide a 14–10 lead.

Georgia retook the lead in the third quarter when Stockton scored on a 14-yard run. Conor Talty’s 39-yard field goal tied it at 17–17. The Bulldogs drove again in the fourth and Woodring drilled a 23-yard field goal with 5:25 remaining to make it 20–17. Georgia ran out the clock from there.

Stockton finished 18-of-22 for 249 yards with one touchdown and one interception while also scoring on the ground. Dwight Phillips Jr. led the rushing attack with 120 yards. Alabama’s Russell went 16-of-31 for 185 yards and a touchdown. Trae’shawn Brown added 90 yards on the ground for the Tide. Georgia finished with 455 total yards to Alabama’s 346 and controlled the line of scrimmage late.

The Bulldogs stayed undefeated and put themselves in position to claim the top ranking after Texas fell earlier in the day.

Player of the Game: Gunner Stockton. Efficient through the air, scored the go-ahead touchdown, and managed the late drives in a road win at Alabama.
