GAME RECAP: No. 25 Kentucky Stuns LSU 35–34 in Overtime at Kroger Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kroger Field got another one of those nights.

No. 25 Kentucky outlasted LSU 35–34 in overtime, converting a two-point try after the final touchdown to secure the win. The Wildcats improved to 5–1 (3–1 SEC). The Tigers fell to 4–2 (1–2 SEC).

LSU opened with a methodical drive and a 24-yard field goal from Scott Starzyk. Kentucky answered quickly. CJ Baxter scored from three yards out to put the Wildcats ahead 7–3. Sam Leavitt then hit Zach Grace for a 22-yard touchdown and LSU reclaimed the lead at 10–7.

Kentucky took control in the second quarter. Brock Coffman returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown to make it 14–10. Leavitt found Jackson Harris for a 10-yard score to put LSU back in front 17–14. Kenny Minchey scored from a yard out as the half expired and Kentucky went to the locker room leading 20–17.

The second half stayed tight. Both teams traded scores until the game was tied at 27–27 at the end of regulation. Kentucky had to overcome missed field goals earlier before Adam Zouagui’s late kick forced overtime.

In the extra period LSU struck first. Leavitt scored from 15 yards out to put the Tigers ahead 34–27. Kentucky responded with Baxter’s 1-yard touchdown run. Minchey then converted the two-point try himself and the Wildcats walked off 35–34.

Baxter finished with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including the overtime score. Minchey went 23-of-36 for 246 yards and stayed clean of turnovers. Leavitt accounted for three total touchdowns but threw an interception. Kentucky finished with 401 total yards to LSU’s 410 and committed zero turnovers.

Player of the Game: Kenny Minchey. Managed the game without a turnover and delivered the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime.
