Orange Lutheran High School announced Monday morning that Rod Sherman has concluded his tenure as head football coach, effective immediately. The news came in a letter to football families from Assistant Principal of Athletics Jon Spencer, who expressed gratitude for Sherman’s five years of service while confirming the program will move forward with a national search for his replacement.

Sherman compiled a 33-29 overall record during his time with the Lancers, navigating the tough Trinity League schedule. His tenure included several memorable postseason moments, most notably the 2025 CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff run. Despite a challenging 3-9 regular season, Orange Lutheran stunned the high school football world with a 20-19 quarterfinal upset over nationally top-ranked St. John Bosco — a Braves team that had blown out the Lancers 48-0 just weeks earlier in league play. The dramatic victory propelled Orange Lutheran to the Division 1 semifinals.

During the transition, Football General Manager Kyla Laulhere will oversee all football operations, with Chris Ward serving as the on-field lead coach.
