PREVIEW: The CIF Southern Section Regular Season Finale has arrived, marking the last regular season matchup for the Sunset League. This game holds significant importance, not only as the conclusion of one of Orange County’s finest public school leagues but also because playoff implications are at stake. The Corona Del Mar Sea Kings and the Huntington Beach Oilers are both vying to secure their playoff spots by reaching the 5-win mark. Playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday, along with the 4th place game for the Sunset League.
Corona Del Mar enters this game after suffering two consecutive losses and is determined to regain their momentum heading into the playoffs. Last week, they lost the Battle of the Bay for the first time in a decade with a narrow 21-20 defeat against Newport Harbor. Nevertheless, their Senior Quarterback, Kaleb Annett, had an impressive performance, throwing for 310 yards and 3 touchdowns on 30 completions.
Huntington Beach, on the other hand, is coming off a tough loss last week to a top 15 team in the CIF Southern Section, Los Alamitos, with a score of 63-13. They aim to reinvigorate the Oiler team with playoffs just a week away and put the previous loss behind them. Freshman Quarterback Brady Edmunds showed promise, throwing for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 completions against a formidable Griffins team.
PREDICTION: This game will go down to the wire, Huntington Beach sneaks away with the win on the road to win it 34-31
