WEEK PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS: CIFSS Week 8 and CCCAA Football Week 6

Newport Harbor @ Edison

Thursday 10/12 7PM

Cap Sheue Field

PREVIEW: Last week, Edison secured their third consecutive win against the Huntington Beach Oilers. On the offensive front, Julius Gillick played a pivotal role in Edison’s victory by scoring five rushing touchdowns on an impressive 312 rushing yards. The Chargers’ defense was led by Hoi Hansen, who made 10 crucial tackles. However, it’s worth noting that Edison was missing a key offensive player, Savelio Niumata, due to a hand injury sustained in the previous week. This led to Freshman Quarterback Sam Thomson stepping in, and the future quarterback situation under Head Coach Jeff Grady remains uncertain.

Shifting our focus to the Newport Harbor Sailors, they faced the Huntington Beach Oilers two weeks ago. Sophomore Quarterback Jaden O’Neal had a standout performance, throwing for five touchdowns with 203 passing yards. Unfortunately, the Sailors couldn’t replicate their success in the following week as they succumbed to a 62-14 defeat against the Los Alamitos Griffins. However, the senior wide receiver Jordan Anderson, who has committed to Oregon, made an impact with seven receptions and a touchdown, accumulating 164 receiving yards.

With Newport Harbor holding a 3-4 record and Edison at 4-3, the upcoming game at Cap Sheue Field is expected to be a closely contested match. It promises to be an exciting affair that may deliver a high-scoring game, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

PREDICTION: Edison sneaks out at home 38-35 to extend their win streak to 4 in a row

Fountain Valley @ Huntington Beach

Friday 10/13 7PM

Cap Sheue Field

PREVIEW: Over the past two weeks, Huntington Beach has faced some challenges, allowing a total of 106 points. In their most recent game, the freshman Quarterback, Brady Edmunds, passed for 160 yards and scored one touchdown. Defensively, the Oilers were anchored by Brandon Soleau, who made an impressive 14 tackles.

Turning our attention to Fountain Valley, their last game was against the Los Alamitos Griffins two weeks ago. Noa Banua took the helm as the quarterback and threw for 204 yards, managing one rushing touchdown but also an interception against the formidable Los Alamitos team. Nolan Olivares played a significant role, catching 11 passes for 97 yards. However, in their most recent outing, the Barons could only muster 7 points against the Corona Del Mar Sea Kings.

Both teams are currently on a two-game losing streak and are eager to avoid a third consecutive loss, especially with a potential playoff berth at stake through an At Large Bid. Additionally, both are striving to secure their first league victory of the year.

PREDICTION: Huntington Beach hangs on and wins their first league game of the year in a 35-21 win

Palomar @ Saddleback

Saturday 10/14 7PM

Saddleback College

PREVIEW: Southern California Junior College Football is back after a bye week last week, as the Saddleback Bobcats come into this ranked 17th in the state of California and seeking their 4th straight win. As 2 weeks ago, the Bobcats survived on a big 1st half comeback led by Brandon Berwald scoring a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown in the 2nd quarter to get the Bobcats back into it. As the past 3 games have gone the Bobcats have continued to use a 2 quarterback system with Brandon Berwald and Trey Kukuk in which we might expect the same on Saturday as well against the Palomar Comets as both threw for a combined 228 yards of passing. The Bobcats look to continue their undefeated start as well to conference play.

Now for the Comets, Palomar is coming into this week after getting back on track right before the bye week with a 43-16 win over Grossmont with Quarterback Kiah Reid throwing for 3 touchdowns on 348 passing yards.

PREDICTION: Saddleback survives homecoming in a high scoring close one 35-31

Last week in Football: 10-1

This season in football: 38-6
